Ready...Set...Goal Plan!

Now that we rang in the New Year it is time for me to put my goals into perspective. I spent the remainder of December planning new goals and rethinking old ones to follow through for 2011.
I am sure you have heard the saying, “Fail to plan...Plan to fail”. How true this saying is. So many people that run a business, or wish to have a business, lack the ability to make planning their strongest proficiency.  Amongst my collection of books and binders I have one binder that holds my researched topics, tools and resources needed to put my goals and plans into action. This has been my most used and favorite binder for the past year.  I have recently transferred my notes from a 1” to a 3” binder. In the past year I have accomplished more for my business because I have continuously planned week by week, month by month, challenging myself to doctrinate planning as a key requirement.  Without planning you lose focus and become overwhelmed with all that needs to be accomplished.  I chose Mondays as a set day to read, educated myself and research topics according to my goal plan. I can honestly say I look forward to Monday coming around. Who doesn’t mind snuggling up with a good book, drawing or journal dreaming?   Structuring my days have paid off.
So, what is in store for 2011? Much.  I have exciting plans for 2012. For now, I am keeping this a secret.  In the mean time, I must first create stepping stones to guide me through the year or my plans for 2012 will not be a reality.
I have three challenges for my business that should be accomplished within the first three to four months.  In the month of January I will meet with a graphics designer to assist with a logo suitable for my website, blog and stationery. I have several drawings already drafted and now I am ready for her expertise. I have waited too long to get this minor task accomplished and wish to show off what ideal logo I created for Design Expressions.
At the end of February I will say good-by to hand drawn designs. I will offer my clients computerized visual illustrations of floor plans, window and bedding treatments, which include color and fabric selection. What a fantastic tool to assist the client in his/her decision process. I am excited, as well, concerned of my limited time spent learning new software.
Prior to Spring arriving, I will be designing and fabricating a whimsical but elegant child’s room for a professional photo. I have several ideas that I have tossed around. I am sure the end result will be just perfect.
Of course, I have more than three goals to accomplish. But for now, branding, expanding and creating awareness is on the top of the list.
I hope you have your journal or even a three ring binder ready to make 2011 your year of accomplishments.  Now let’s stop talking about it and make it happen…Are you with me?
Love ya,  Janet
